E3 day two: postmortem

With a new day comes a new hall: South Hall that is.  With almost double the number of the booths and a plethora of games to be played, Dave and I had our hands full.  Clocking in at a little over two hours, Ep. 2 of our free-range style podcast covers the following:

-    Prototype
-    Dead Space Extraction
-    Red Steel 2
-    Forza 3
-    Darksiders
-    King of Fighters
-    Bayonetta
-    Split Second
-    Pixel Junk Shooter
-    Angry Dante’s Inferno/EA protesters
-    Mini Ninjas
-    Impressions of South Hall
-    And our surprises and disappointments of day two!

Pull up a chair, this round is on us.

UPDATE:  I have video footage from the E3 floor coming, it’s just taking far longer to log it all and get it transferred, cut, and loaded at the end of each day (especially when I only get about 4 hours to work before I pass out of exhaustion).  I promise you guys…it’s coming!

Des, I finally got around to listening to all the E3 wrapup podcasts and Ep. 8 and had a question. I was intrigued by your comments about EA’s upcoming title: Dante’s Inferno and thenso called E3 protest. In hindsight what are your thoughts about the incident now that it has been revealed as a publicity stunt and that the protest was staged? Also the nonsense surrounding this game continues as they have announced a “Sin to Win” contest at the 09 Comic-con. They so there’s no such thing as bad press but are they trying to cover up the fact that the game really is a generic knock off of other titles before that have done it better? Btw, here’s a link to the contest:

Well, we discussed it at length in episode 4…and my take on it is pretty straightforward: I think Dante’s Inferno will go down as a game whose marketing was more controversial than the game itself (and possibly more memorable). And, as Dave mentioned, the bad press is actually making people talk about the game more than they would. Personally, I think it’s funny that EA used a well known anti-video gaming tactic to promote a game. It’s not like church groups have never protested against video games. Was it in bad taste? Probably. But hey, it did the job…we’re still talking about the game almost two months after E3. But as one person said, EA needs to spend a little more time making the game good instead of poking fun at religious fanatics. I would have take it one step further: don’t try to make a game out of Dante’s Inferno…but hey, I’m a constant pessimist.
