E3 Impression – Split Second

Split Second

There were no shortage of racing games present at this years E3, that goes without saying. But none were quite as frenetic or as insane as Split Second. Developed by Black Rock Studios and being released by Disney Interactive, this little game places you in the drivers seat of a car that’s barreling down a track littered with buildings ready to blow. And the best part is you can trigger the explosions whenever you want, something that can really screws with your fellow racers.

Other abilities include being able to blow up your opponent, double your speed, open up short cuts, and more. Oh, did I forget to mention: you crash a jumbo jet…INTO THE TRACK!  And then you drive underneath it while sparks are flying every which way.  Yeah, can’t say I’ve ever experienced that in a game before.

All of these ‘stunts’ become available to you as you race.  The more you drift and challenge your fellow riders, the more your power bar will fill. And when it gets to the top, pray you’re not the guy on the receiving end of the destruction.

While the game is very early stages of development (they were only showing one level and one car) if Black Rock can find a way to make each level as fun to drive and blow up over and over again, this new racing IP could give the Need for Speed and Burnout games a run for their money.

looks fun. It would be cool if they made a game like that but with random explosions each time.

That would be pretty sweet, but it also might make the track near impossible to finish :P
