Star Wars: TOR – Why this game could be the Death Star to WoW’s Alderaan

Okay, so the title is corny, but let’s not beat around the bush: Bioware and Lucasarts upcoming MMORPG is, undeniably, the most ambitious undertaking ever for the genre.  And at this years E3, both companies made it known that they are not messing around when it comes to what they plan to deliver to the player.  The short list includes crazy ideas like constantly evolving worlds, dynamic missions that change as you play them depending on who you play them with, a game you can play 80% of alone if you wish, multiple class favorites from the entire breadth of the Star Wars universe (including smugglers and bounty hunters), and the assurance that anything that can have voice over, will have voice over.  That already trumps WoW by a metric ton of “Bantha Poodoo” (ok, that wasn’t any better).

While I’m aware games and game companies have promised a lot of things in the past (The Force Unleashed says ‘hi’) I feel more and more compelled to give this game a legitimate chance, due in no small part to the amount of tape both companies have gone through to inform the public of just how massive this game really is.  If you’re still not buying it, please watch some of the videos below and “unlearn what you have learned” from the last few Star Wars games.  May the force be with you.

An unbelievable amount of time and effort is being put into the voice over work in SW:TOR

Although it’s already been stated, several times, that this game is not due to come out until sometime next year, I am clinging to a shread of hope that “next year” doesn’t mean Holiday 2010.  The force may be strong with me, but the wait could be enough to turn me towards the dark side! MWAHAHAHA…*cough choke cough*
