Super Meat Boy gets scooped up by XBLA
If you haven’t played the flash game “Meat Boy” over at Newgrounds.com, stop reading this and go do it. It’s awesome, old-school 2D fun. Also, it will get you way more psyched for the super-sized sequel, “Super Meat Boy” that is scheduled to release this summer. The tale of meat boy is a simple one. Meat Boy and Bandage girl are a couple and liked by everyone. Dr. Fetus is jerk and no one likes him. Because no one likes him (er, it) decides kidnap Bandage girl from Meat Boy. Meat Boy, having nothing better to do, is tasked with rescuing her over and over again (cause, you know, ‘she’s in another damn castle!’).
We have some gameplay footage down below. Check’em out (and seriously, go try the original game).
Up until now, the game was slated to release only on the Wii and PC. But, due in no small part to all the recent press on sites like Bytejacker, Area5.tv, and even a front page spot on the March issue of PC Gamer magazine, Microsoft has swooped in and picked up the game for a timed-exclusive release on XBLA…much to the chagrin of everyone on PC and Wii.
While I’m happy for Team Meat, the fact that Microsoft wanted this to come out for XBLA first just reignites the old discussion of why Microsoft is competing so hard with itself? Why not make it a timed exclusive for PC and XBLA? Instead, the PC players just feel like 3rd class citizens…AGAIN!
Either way, it’s nice to know Super Meat Boy will be heading to as many systems as possible. Though it should be noted no PS3 version of the game has been announced yet. We here at GameCrashers would have to assume it’s coming sooner rather than later.

I’ll second this: the Flash game is amazing.
I’m also a fan of the designer, Edmund McMillen, and want to point out he has a bunch of other games (some free) on his website: http://www.edmundm.com/
