E3 Videos: Rock Band 3 Live Stage Demo

I have a confession to make: I have never bought a Rock Band game. I’ve played them a whole hell of a lot. But with all the plastic addons: the drums, the guitars, the microphone stand, and so on it can get a might unwieldy. But there’s another, deeper, nagging reason why I’ve never bought a Rock Band game. It’s something that, until now, no one has been able to resolve. You see, I’m a pianist and a singer. I play real songs and real music. And no matter how much Rock Band tries to replicate the feel of playing a real song, there has always been that disconnect between notes on a musical scale and the five colored keys on a Rock Band guitar. It just isn’t really playing music.

Lucky for us, Harmonix is a team filled to the brim with musicians, all of whom know the the honest truth of the music game genre: it’s time to put up or shut up.

Allow me a moment while I gather my thoughts regarding my initial response to the Rock Band 3 E3 demo: *very…long…pause*

HOLY CRAP! I mean holy, effing, balls-to-the-wall, how the crap did they ever, I can’t believe it’s not butter, crap! Harmonix has gone off to it’s little musical cave in Boston, Mass. and come back with a game that ‘puts up’ three times as much as any other game, period, and then some. If you don’t believe me, just look at the three videos we shot at the Rock Band 3 E3 Stage Demo at the MTV Games/Harmonix booth.
