PAX Developer Interview – Solace

By Dave "Boris" Orosz | 08 September 2010 | Conventions, Editorial, Interviews, Media, PAX | , , , , | 1 Comment

Let’s start the interview coverage off with a game you should be playing right now. I mean literally right now. The game was made during the developer’s time at DigiPen Institute of Technology and is free for download right now:

Download Solace Now.

At PAX I had the pleasure of running into Robert Francis, the Technical Director (among his many jobs in the development of the game) of Solace, and doing and interview with him.  I present to you here the interview:

I just finished it myself and the game leaves me wanting more.  This is always a good thing.  The game is a shmup staged around the emotional stages of grief, each level depicting a different phase using some amazing music generated in real time.  The game is great, but I have to say, shmup fans are in for a real feast during the final stage.  Oh my god.

I’d love to hear your reactions to the game, so don’t be shy.  Post them here or at the VGevo.com GameCrashers forums, but let’s get the word out on this game so we can see more from the talented team at One Man Down.

I found myself coming back to Solace again and again for a new unique gaming experience. The game is crisp, visually interesting, with audio overlapping to create a very smooth and well polished journey through the five stages of grief. Wonderful job, One Man Down. I hope to see more in the future!
