Stupid News: Gamestop taking Sony NGP Preorders – Bring a ‘Cool Grand’ with you.
Want to pre-order a PSP 2? Well, Gamestop’s your huckleberry. Just bring a cool grand with you. And your first born child.
Before you all flip out in unison, here are some things you should all keep in mind. First, the PSP 2 doesn’t have a firm release date. Second, no retail price has been even remotely discussed yet. And third, yes, this system is probably going to be pretty damn expensive. All you need do is look at the list of included features. It’s the luxury liner of video game handhelds. But here’s what Sony should have done as soon as this listing went up: they should have gone to Gamestop and said “the fuck are you doing?!” Seriously, if you want to make hype for this system drop like a stone in water tell people that it’s going to cost more than the PS3. Not only will a listing like this kill all potential pre-orders (unless you own some kind of sports team), but it will also create the kind of PSPGO-like buzz that Sony cannot afford to go through again.
Personally, I don’t see anyone shelling out more than around $400 for this thing. Even that is pushing it. I just hope that Sony doesn’t assume (again) that we’ll all be willing to pay through the nose to get a PSP with a second analog nub simply because Sony’s logo is on it.
