Are you a fan of stealth (slash) action games? Do you like the idea of bounding around a steampunk inspired city with a sword and crossbow? Ever have an interest in possessing a fish? Even if you only said yes to the first two, Arkane Studios has got you covered with their upcoming release, Dishonored. Bethesda recently released two new videos this week that showcase a lot of different gameplay mechanics of Dishonored as well as the two core approaches to gameplay: stealth and violence. While stealth will have you secretly enter peoples homes unbeknownst to the unfortunate targets and cause events to transpire in ways to make his or her death look like an accident, a full on forceful and violent approach will get the job done as well…but with much more blood being spewed and many more bodies being laid to waste.

Part I: Stealth

Part II: Violence

No matter which pathway you choose, both videos seem to showcase a game with a lot of promise. Dishonored certainly seems to have a “Theif meets Mirror’s Edge meets Assassin’s Creed” thing going on for it. And for this gamer, that is enough to at least get me through the front door. What we’ll all have to wait and see is if the gameplay is actually as deep throughout the entire game as it seems to be in these two videos. Also, it’s probably worth noting that the stealth video is twice the length of the violence video. That is to say, stealth is going to require more time, more patience, and (hopefully) some clever thinking in order to make a clean kill and get away without being spotted. But it’s nice to know that if stealth isn’t your thing, this game has an option for you too.

On a related note…swords through a dude’s neck is never not disturbing as hell.

Dishonored is currently in development by Arkane Studios and is being published by Bethesda Softworks. It set to release on the PC, PS3, and 360 on October 9th 2012.
