According to “The Usual Suspect” the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was to convince the world he didn’t exist. Well, EA and Visceral Games would prefer you think that he’s a little title called ‘Mass: We Pray’. The rouse started as a YouTube video that now has over 200,000 page views. The video then links back to a clean, pristine website with pictures and video from the games. This includes cross-shaped “we-pray-motes” and a kneeling accessory. But this website has an awful secret. Touch anything on the page and up pops a window that reads “Heretic, may thou burn in Hell!” Yup, we’ve all been duped. This is all a big hoax that’s trying to sell Dante’s Inferno. Brilliant though I find it to be (and pretty hilarious) it seem like a pretty long way to go to get to a video and a link to the Dante’s Inferno facebook page. Almost as long as buying protesters to stand outside of the LA Convention Center during E3. But what do I know. Some marketing and PR guy at EA thought this was a brilliant idea. Who am I to argue?
EA has not revealed the lengths to which the lucky few will have to go to get their hands on one of these bad-ass, hand-crafted statues. But whatever it is, damn EA for making the wait so excruciating. Not only is this statue bad-ass, it’s in very limited quantity. Only 1,000 pieces of the Eddie Riggs statue (Sculpted by Mark Newman and colored by Tom Vukmanic) were commissioned. So, simply put, no, this will not be coming packed in with any bundle of the game. But I swear, if I have to go fight anti-rock demons in an alternate universe to get one, I just might consider it. Bring it on, EA! Stay tuned to the Brutal Legend Twitter Feed and Brutal Legend ‘dot’ com for more info.
If you give a gamer a plane, they will find something interesting to do with it. It’s a guarentee. Sure, flying the darn thing through the air is simple enough. But crashing it head first into the ground whilst blowing it the “f” up? Oh so much more rewarding (as the video below will demonstrate). This video was brought to my attention by some of my friends over at Video Game Refugees. It’s a collection of kamikaze artists who have taken the time to figure out the best way to use their planes to really piss the enemy players off: ramming it into any sorry sod standing between the pilots and total victory. Attach some C4 to your fusilage and you’ve got a flying molotov cocktail that’s going to blow the bad guys to bits. Victory has never been sweeter. Battlefield 1943 is available on XBL and the PSN. Thoughts on both BF1943 and BF:Heroes coming next week.
A day late and a dollar short, the GameCrashers podcast team returns from E3 less than refreshed and jump head first into the post-expo detritus. As you can see by the length, all good intentions went horribly bad. The topic list includes: - Games Played: Uncharted MP, Infamous/Prototype, Red Faction: Guerrilla, Patapon 2, Peggle on iphone, and more - Double Fine sued by Activision - Mirror’s Edge 2 gets multiplayer - Darksider’s Jan. 1st release date - Crackdown 2 teaser and thoughts - ESA wants ESRB to rate iphone games - and more [dewplayer:http://www.gamecrashers.net/media/podcast/GCE4_JUN14_2009.mp3] One toke over the line, you poor fool? Wait til you see those damn bats!
E3 day two: postmortem With a new day comes a new hall: South Hall that is. With almost double the number of the booths and a plethora of games to be played, Dave and I had our hands full. Clocking in at a little over two hours, Ep. 2 of our free-range style podcast covers the following: - Prototype - Dead Space Extraction - Red Steel 2 - Forza 3 - Darksiders - King of Fighters - Bayonetta - Split Second - Pixel Junk Shooter - Angry Dante’s Inferno/EA protesters - Mini Ninjas - Impressions of South Hall - And our surprises and disappointments of day two! Pull up a chair, this round is on us. [dewplayer:http://www.gamecrashers.net/media/podcast/GCE32009-Day2.mp3] Rob UPDATE: I have video footage from the E3 floor coming, it’s just taking far longer to log it all and get it transferred, cut, and loaded at the end of each day (especially when I only get about 4 hours to work before I pass out of exhaustion). I promise you guys…it’s coming!
