For a series that has seen its fair share of ups and downs, Tony Hawk Ride has done a wonderful job of stunning video game journalists in a way that no other entry in the series has ever been able to do. Sadly, its probably not the kind of reaction the team behind the most expensive entry in the series would like to hear. Take for example the recent review by Kevin Van Ord over at Gamespot and Shane Satterfield’s lambasting on Gametrailers.com (as well as the less-than-stellar review). Just to make it clear, none of us here at GameCrashers are planning on buying, playing, or reviewing the game. At $120 it’s just not worth it. Furthermore, we can’t think of a triple-A franchise that has ever had a more embarrassing release than Activision’s Tony Hawk Ride. And that laughable review party was the most blatant admission of failure this industry has seen since Sony canned “Papa Playstation” himself, Ken Kutaragi. I can’t even being to predict where this entry leaves the disheveled series, but you’d be hard pressed to convince me that any company would risk making another Tony Hawk game after this whole mess.
